Finland Celebrates
their independence on December 6th.
the date when they got their
independence form the Russian Republic. The declaration of
independence was written on 4.12.1917 and then accepted by government
at 6.12.1917 with 100 to 88 votes.
On January 1918
Finland got accepted their independence by most of the European
countries, first ones being Sweden and France at 4th
of January and Germany at 6th, Great Britain and United States didn’t accept the independence
before the WWI had ended, more than a year later.
The date of December 6th has only been celebrated since 1919, when at first it was only a holiday for offices, schools and jury; then in 1929 it became a general holiday like we know it today. The biggest celebration happens at the Presidential Castle commonly known as Linnanjuhlat where more than 2000 Finnish celebrities and important people are invited to have dinner with the President. The party is every year broadcasted by Finnish Television YLE and most of Finns like to watch it at home.
